Understanding CPTSD

Short sections, in plain language. Read one and stop. There's no order and no test at the end.

Recognising yourself in these descriptions does not establish a diagnosis. Many other things — ADHD, autism, anxiety and mood conditions, thyroid and hormonal issues, sleep disorders, chronic pain, ongoing stress, medication effects — can produce overlapping experiences, and more than one can be true at once. A qualified clinician who knows your history is the right place for that question.

Complex PTSD is the pattern that can develop after harm that was repeated and prolonged, usually in situations that were hard or impossible to escape: ongoing abuse, neglect, coercion, captivity, chronic instability. Rather than one memory that intrudes, it tends to shape the baseline — how safe the world feels, how you read other people, how you treat yourself.

You are allowed to skip anything that does not help.
