The morning after a bad night

Nothing about sunrise resets a nervous system. You're starting today with less than you'd normally have, and that is the actual situation — not a character flaw.

What today actually is

  • Under-slept, so everything will feel about 30% louder and more personal.
  • Leftover fear takes hours to drain. It isn't new information about your day.
  • The emotional hangover — flat, fragile, tearful, irritable — is a symptom, not a forecast.
  • Decisions made today are lower quality. That's biology, not weakness.

Two things. That's the whole day.

What genuinely has to happen? Not what should. What has to.

What you're letting go of today

Postponed, not failed. Under-slept days have a smaller budget and spending it anyway is how tomorrow becomes another one of these.

Small things that genuinely help

  • Daylight on your face within an hour of getting up, even through a window.
  • Water and something with protein, before caffeine if you can manage the order.
  • A nap before mid-afternoon, twenty minutes, if it's available.
  • Fewer decisions. Wear the obvious clothes, eat the obvious food.
  • Tell one person you slept badly, if there's someone safe. It lowers the performance load.
